Women Empowerment in Politics and Leadership Program

Ekama Development Foundation, which serves a purpose of Empowering Women through raising awareness, social dialogues, capacity building. In collaboration with the research department which as conducted various finding on the area of Gender-based violence (GBV), Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH), limited participation of women in political and public life, Entrepreneurship, the dominant tradition culture (Women inheritance and Ownership of Properties), exclusion of women from peace tables, financial systems that perpetuate their discrimination, and lack of access to education and poor retention of girls in schools has been the main focus on the department..

To promote equal participation in political issues, on July 2018 introduced the new program of women empowerment in politics and leadership for the first phase, and ended on 2nd August 2019, The first program had 30 women participants from political parties in the country registered under the law and has representation in Parliament, i.e. CHADEMA, CCM, CUF, NCCR MAGEUZI, CHAUMA, TADEA, DEMOKRASIA MAKINI, UPDP, and ACT WAZALENDO. The age of participants was from 20 years of age and below 40 years of age.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

The first program involved different trainings from different facilitators covering different aspects including, Dr. Matrona Kabyemelwa, training on media and public speaking which was trained by Mr. Rashid Kejo and program Mentor and Head of the Program was led Professor Mwesiga Baregu. Mr. Edwin Mugambila and program Mentor and Head of the Program was led Professor Mwesiga Baregu.

For the second phase of the program which started 12th February 2020 but unfortunately ended in March 7th due to the pandemic of corona virus and was unable to proceed due to the time of the political training to be over and remaining chance was for the political candidates to be ready for the campaigns and election, the second phase also involved facilitators which where Dr. Jason Nkyabonaki, Mr. Edwin Mugambila, Mr. Rashid Kejo, Ms. Anna Kulaya And Dr. Marjoire Mbilinyi was the Head of the program.
